This training is intended for substance use prevention professionals in Texas.
Prevention works! But how? What are the foundations of evidence-based substance use and misuse prevention work? The 15-hour Prevention Skills Training (PST) provides an overview of prevention’s underlying principles. Certified trainers equip participants with introductory knowledge and skills over 5 independent learning modules.
This course is the second module of the 15-hour PST.
This module provides an overview of SAMSHA’s Communication domain and the knowledge/skills/abilities within the work of a prevention professional. In this module participants will review basic communication concepts, explore this specific cross-cutting competency, and be introduced to spotlighted concepts that may influence the messaging of prevention services.
1. Elements of Cultural Competency - Mon, Jul 11 at 9am-12pm
2. Communication - Tue, Jul 12 at 9am-12pm
3. Child and Adolescent Development - Wed, Jul 13 at 9am-12pm
4. Risk and Protective Factors - Thurs, Jul 14 at 9am-12pm
5. Prevention Across the Lifespan - Fri, Jul 15 at 9am-12pm
This PST is virtual, occurring live over Zoom. All participants are required to join on camera and expected to fully engage in the training to be eligible to receive a Continuing Education (CE) certificate upon completion.
To complete the Prevention Skills Training individuals will need to register for each of the five (5) modules independently.
Approved registrants will receive an email confirmation with the Zoom link to attend all five PST modules.
